Decoda Literacy Solutions
Clarified brand and website for literacy group
Decoda Literacy Solutions had a 6 year old website that felt much older. It was overflowing with so much information and competing calls to action that navigating it sometimes meant running around in circles — even for people who knew what they were looking for! The goal of the redesign was to make it easier to understand what Decoda does and have a current, professional presence as the go-to place for literacy in BC. In rebuilding a custom WordPress website for the client, we helped create a simplified site map, while building an easy-to-use website our client now loves to update.
Some of the features of the build were: landing pages with custom fields to introduce areas of the website, flexible content areas so staff can choose elements they need for specific pages (like accordions and styled testimonials), and a robust resource section with multiple filters so users can drill down to find exactly what they need easily.
During our initial Discovery Process, we unearthed some complaints and concerns about their existing brand. Upon agreeing to a change of scope, we embarked on a brand refresh. We cleaned up the Decoda and Decoda Foundation logos, simplified the typography for better legibility (dropping the rotated ‘quirky’ e as it wasn’t kind to language learners), and extended their colour palette keeping their well loved purple as a dominant feature. With a few graphic devices fleshing out the visual palette the in-house team can now activate the brand themselves using the graphic standards guide and a few templates we created.
