Growing up in Ucluelet, BC, Laura’s passion for art started at a young age. Since completing her Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Vancouver Island University, she has been working in the industry. As a designer, Laura has learned to synthesize complex ideas and communicate them visually. Timmerman’s work includes print design, illustration, branding, and public art. Through her work, Laura hopes to strengthen people’s connection to nature and use her creative skills to inspire positive change.
What is in your backyard?
Living in Nanaimo, we have a big backyard filled with chickens, fruit trees, and beautiful songbirds.
How are you creative when you’re away from your work?
From a young age, I have loved painting and illustrating. I refuel my creativity while out in nature. I often find time while on a hike to stop and draw. I find this is a great way to slow down and capture a moment.
How are you active in your community?
Teaching yoga is another one of my passions and it is a great way to connect with the community. I also enjoy helping out with the South End Community Food Forest, as well as helping organize Cystic Fibrosis fundraisers.
